The EWI seems to be popping up with greater frequency these days, and that’s quite all right. The versatility in sound and style of playing capable with this instrument provide an extra boost that pushes things just over the top enough to make things super fun and weirder than you thought they could get. For Moon Hooch, it definitely adds to their capacity to create serious drops and down-low grooves to their already raw and raunchy “cave music,” while still keeping their wind-based roots. It would be interesting to see if any other bands featuring saxophone pick up the EWI (Big Gigantic? Gramatik?).
Here’s to synthesizing the wind!
